CHP Berkshires psychotherapist Anthony Hamling is among the mental health practitioners interviewed for The Berkshire Eagle’s article on managing election anxiety.
Says Anthony: “There’s a fear that ‘No. 1, can I go vote? Do I have a voice in this?’ No. 2, ‘If I can vote, is it safe? Is something going to happen to me?'” Hamling said. “As it goes further, they say, ‘I want to stay in this country. … I have a life here, I’ve lived here X-number of years, I’m really afraid that I’m going to have to leave and I won’t have a choice.”
And he adds that people should try not to let politics end friendships or family relationships. “They can still be family, they can still be friends. We can agree to disagree.”
