Jun 30, 2016 | News

Community Health Programs hosts the “Happiest Baby” program on Monday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the CHP campus at 442 Stockbridge Road, in the Family Services building. The program is free and mothers, fathers and babies are welcome.

Led by MaryBeth Merritt, CHP breastfeeding peer counselor and certified Happy Baby educator, the program teaches parenting skills developed by Dr. Harvey Karp. to sooth fussy babies, manage prolonged crying and address sleep problems. These challenges can trigger parental exhaustion, breastfeeding problems, marital stress, depression and even child abuse. Techniques include simple, effective ways to soothe babies, such as activating the calming reflex, swaddling, and soothing sounds and motions.

Open to the whole community, the program is recommended for third trimester pregnant women and early post-partum mothers and fathers.
