If you are reading with your family, you know it’s not just about the book!
Positive Parenting: Reading with Your Family is a free, family-friendly workshop taking place Nov. 21, 5:30-7:30 at 141 West Avenue in Great Barrington.
This fun, collaborative workshop with Families Like Ours includes childcare for children 2+ and pizza for all.
Led by child development experts Kim Waterman of CHP Family Services and Rania Markham of Family Resource Center, the get-together will engage parents and caregivers with tips and insights for family reading. Reading with caregivers can expand a child’s horizons and help develop literacy skills; reading also is an opportunity to engage in a focused manner with your child, for social and developmental growth. This session will focus on literacy development and how you incorporate reading into your everyday routine and what that can mean for your family, and parents can connect with each other on reading tips.
Meanwhile, many resources exist on the topic of reading with children, including this article from the New York Public Library.
