Two Physicians Join CHP Great Barrington Health Center

Family practice physicians Dr. Stephen A. Alsdorf and Dr. Lisa Nelson have joined the primary care medical team at CHP Great Barrington Health Center.

Drs. Nelson and Alsdorf, who care for children, teens and adults, practiced most recently at Family Practice Associates in Pittsfield. Dr. Nelson also served as director of medical education at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, and has worked as medical director for The Nutrition Center in Pittsfield.

She earned both her undergraduate (summa cum laude) and medical degrees at UMass Medical School. She completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at Boston Medical Center and South Boston Community Health Center.

Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians. She also serves on the faculty of UMass Medical School and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also lead faculty and coordinator of continuing medical education programs at Kripalu. She is co-author of Yoga & Diabetes, and her practice focuses on prevention and treatment of chronic disease through changes in diet, exercised and stress.

Dr. Alsdorf has special interest in sports medicine, preventive and wellness care, chronic disease management and mind-body medicine.

A 2002 graduate of the UMass Medical School, he completed his internship and residency in the Boston area at Boston University Family Medicine Program Boston Medical Center and Codman Square Health Center. He earned his undergraduate degree at Carleton College, magna cum laude, and went on to earn a diploma in pre-medical studies at Harvard University Extension School.

Dr. Alsdorf is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the Medical Executive Committee of Berkshire Medical Center, where he is also on staff. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He and Dr. Nelson, who are married, live in Lenox.
