Posted: January 27, 2017
Dr. Ronald Maitland, a dental medicine educator at NYU and Tufts University, has joined the staff of CHP Neighborhood Dental Center. He will see patients and join the dental residency teaching staff at the dental center, along with Dr. Charles Nemser.
With more than 50 professional years dedicated to dentistry education, research, writing and industry oversight, Maitland will work with Dr. Charles Nemser in teaching the art and science dentistry to three dental residents. Residents are placed at CHP Neighborhood Dental Center through Berkshire Medical Center’s residency program. CHP assumed the teaching role with BMC’s residency program in October 2016.
Dr. Maitland works two days each week in Pittsfield, and shuttles between jobs as associate clinical professor of cariology and comprehensive care at NYU, and as clinical visiting professor for prosthodontics and operative dentistry at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston.
He has worked overseeing the dental profession with the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Dentistry, and as chief examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency and Assessments. He served in the U.S. Navy (Reserve) Dental Corps during the Vietnam War, and has written and presented extensively on scientific issues in dental medicine. He earned his dental degree at Tufts University.
The fine print of his extensive resume shows that Dr. Maitland’s life expands well beyond teeth: he was a member of the Society of American Magicians, he a professionally trained chef and a cabinet-maker in his spare time. He is a resident of Lenox.
Neighborhood Dental Center has also expanded its dental hygienist staff: Terri Wendell, who has practiced in Berkshire County for 25 years, is graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, in Troy, N.Y., with an associate degree in science in dental hygiene. She is committed to quality care and her patients’ overall health.
